What is Halitosis?
Definition
Bad breath is normal to everyone and it occurs when you ingest certain foods that give off an unpleasant smell, when you don’t eat enough and during the morning before brushing teeth. Having bad breath is perfectly normal but if it doesn’t go away despite brushing your teeth, then that could be an oral problem known as halitosis.
Halitosis simply means bad breath and this could either be acute or chronic depending on what causes it. For mild cases, it might simply mean that a patient would need to brush his teeth more and as for severe cases, this could indicate gum disease or intestinal problems.
You Have Halitosis When
As stated earlier, bad breath will happen to everyone at certain points of time but if the stench is out of control, then that is one sure sign that you have halitosis. You know that it is out of control when you can actually taste the smell frequently in your mouth and if a lot of people have given you bad comments about how your breath smells. This is also manifested if you have thick saliva often and no matter what you do, nothing seems to improve it.
