1. What is a Day Spa?
A day spa is a bit like a beauty salon only the treatment offered is much more comprehensive and so the area it encompasses is usually much larger. It is a place people go to spend a day to get a variety of body treatments such as massages, facials and much more. Day spas are different from resort spas or destination spas where people stay overnight or for several nights. Treatment at a day spa can be as short as an hour or as long as a day.
Day spas can be small village-like spas or huge extravaganzas complete with the very latest equipment available. You will also find some resort spas that offer day spa treatments. There are some hair salons that adopt the term day spas, but only offer massages at their place of business. It is advisable to do some research or even pay a quick visit to any place you may be interested in.
What should you be looking for in a day spa? You need to find day spas that offer the following amenities:
• A serene, pleasant atmosphere that is conducive to relaxation
• Provision of robes and slippers
• Private rooms with clean linen for treatment
• A full range of massages, facials and body treatments for you to choose from
• Professional therapists and estheticians for massage and other treatments
• Professional range of spa products
• The facility should be clean and hygienic to a very high standard
• In larger spas, lockers, steam rooms and saunas should be available
• A relaxation area where light refreshments are provided
The following information on day spas that you should be aware of, will help you make an informed choice in your selection.
The very small spas do not generally offer steam rooms, Jacuzzis or sauna facilities. You will need to decide how important these facilities are to you before you make a final decision.
