You are building a new deck out back.  It has been going well so far.  You have gotten the necessary materials and even saved some money on doing that.  Now, it is time to get started.  But, wait, what about tools.  Do you have everything that you need to get started?  If not, a trip to the local hardware store to purchase them may be something that shocks you.  Today, some of the best tools that are available to you are going to be quite costly.  In many cases, it may even stop you from actually getting the project started.  That can be frustrating in itself. 

So, what should you do?  You can ask around and talk to friends and do the borrowing bit.  This will work for some and it will keep your costs next to nothing.  But, you may not know anyone that has what you need.  Or, they may not be willing to put it in your inexperienced hands.  Remember, they are costly.

When this happens, you may have another choice or alternative to purchasing new tools.  For example, why don’t you consider renting them?  Some local home improvement stores are now providing their customers with a service called tool rental.  You can go in and get many of the latest and greatest tools for next to nothing.  It will cost you some money depending on the length of time that you need it, but in the end, it will still be less expensive than purchasing it.

It does pay to do your homework here though.  Walk over and find out what the actual cost of the tool that you need to borrow is.  If that cost is lower than then the cost that you will spend for the length of time you need, don’t fall for this trap.  You will want to also compare one location to the next.  Often, you can find wholesale pricing, which can help to drop the cost considerably.
