Introduction

It took me a while to grasp how he did it…making money on the internet that is. Casey, my 12-year-old nephew (now 15), is hardly involved in anything that requires his full focus or attention so it was never surprising to me to see him often on my old laptop for hours typing away as opposed to doing something sporty or constructive. Then again, I guess a kid can only be young for so long so I usually leave him be, especially now since I know what it is he’s actually doing on that laptop.

All this time I thought he was just playing online games or talking to other kids on forums. Apparently it wasn’t quite the case as it turns out. I guess through my own sheer ignorance, I didn’t really want to nor chose to understand that making money through the internet was possible, especially with the amount of moneymaking junk mail which somehow found its way to my inbox, convincing me that it was nothing more than an endless line of pyramid schemes.

I was also aware of the blogging and social-bookmarking craze that had taken the world by storm with Twitter, Facebook, etc. In case you’re still not up to speed, it’s just a lot of people who post online in these big social-networking sites trying to make other people aware of their existence. Myself included!  I personally didn’t realize how big this blogging thing was until I saw one of Casey’s sites. From that one site, he made $13 in commissions in a day from a single sale. Well to be honest, that’s not exactly going to feed a family daily although it could buy a morning coffee/donut and a Whopper combo for lunch. So realistically Casey could feed himself for almost a day with the cash he’s generated from his one site.

It’s quite interesting to see what he’s managed to put together in a span of almost three years. From what I know, he didn’t start blogging until I gave him my old laptop in early 2007. Currently he’s running about twelve different blogs, all completely monetized. Many of them attributed to or targeted towards difference niches including holiday niches. With Halloween having come and gone, he had revised his old Halloween Costumes blog and had made a few September sales off there a whole month before Halloween itself, not to mention the sales he
