1. The Importance of Pixels
Pixels are one thing we hear a lot about when it comes to cameras. Most marketing campaigns use the pixel count as one of the main features of a camera that is being advertised. It is therefore an important thing to take note of. The number of pixels is what gives a photograph clarity or high resolution.
When checking out the specifications, options and features of a camera, the most important thing that professional photographers look for is high resolution. It is necessary that you are able to understand the basic concept behind this terminology, and the kind of role it plays in influencing the performance of your camera altogether.
Definition is one aspect that photographers are very keen to explore since it has some serious implications on the results of their hard work. It is an important feature and is always highlighted by camera manufacturing companies during marketing campaigns. However, when trying to figure out what the resolution of a camera is all about there are several misconceptions and irrelevant details that you will come across. If you are not into technical details you get even more confused.
The concept of the resolution of a camera is quite simple, and can be explained in a few simple words. When you view a photograph taken by your camera on a screen, or have it printed, you know that it is composed of pixels, which are infinitesimal dots. The greater the number of these dots in an area measuring an inch of square space is, the smaller the size of the dots will be. This will mean that your image will be even sharper. This is what the resolution of your camera is all about. A good quality camera would have a very high resolution. Resolution can be used to gauge how good your camera really is. In order to further understand the concept behind resolution, you should go through the example given below.
You can start by considering a picture you have taken with a camera having 100 dots in every inch square of space (that is, the area is one inch by one inch). The picture would look very clear to your eye. However, if you place 25 dots in every square inch, you will observe that your image would become more blurry. This concept is what is known as resolution, which determines the quality of the picture taken.
