MySpace is the most popular website to meet new people in the United States and around the world. Their URL is www.myspace.com. The rate of new registrations at MySpace is about 300,000 per day and there are over 154 million users today. MySpace was founded by Tom Anderson and Chris DeWolfe. They are now owned by News Corporation, which is located in Santa Monica, California. MySpace has regional versions that allow users of different languages to join MySpace.

MySpace has its own e-mail and search engine system. Also, a downloadable instant messaging system is available to users too. MySpace features personal profiles, photos, music, videos, blogs, and groups. You can use your mobile phone with MySpace on Cingular, MySpace Mobile Alerts, and MySpace Mobile on Helio. Profiles can be customized using HTML. MySpace users can see how many friends they have, who their top friends are, and a link to view all of their friends. To continue, the “comments area” allows users’ friends to leave comments. Bulletins are available for users to post messages to all their friends.

First, to join MySpace you register at the “sign up” link and fill in your email, address, and name. Second, create a password, select your country, postal code, gender, date of birth, check whether or not to allow others to see your birthday, and your preferred site language. Third, click on and read the “terms of service” and “private policy” links. You need to acknowledge that you have read their rules by checking the box to agree with these policies and terms. Next, click on the “sign up” button and type in the text from the image to verify your account. Then, you have the option to upload a photo or “skip” for now. Lastly, you have the option to email friends to invite to your MySpace account or “skip” for now and you are taken to your personal profile site.

Clicking on the “edit profile” link makes adding or editing information about yourself that you want to share with other users easy. For example, you can share your favorite television shows, movies, books, music, and heroes, by clicking on the “interests and personality” link. Furthermore, by clicking on the “account settings” link you can change settings such as who can view your full profile. Also, under the “account settings” area you can make an away message and have it shown when someone wants to send you a message.

The “add/edit photos” link makes uploading your pictures and turning them into a slide show easy. You can “add or edit/change videos” under that link and see which videos are top plays. The link “manage a calendar” allows you to schedule such items as; appointments, bill pay reminders, and vacations. Your “manage address book” link allows you to add your friends’ email addresses, phone numbers, messenger screen names, contact notes and MySpace usernames.
